Our smartphones are good for making texts and phone calls, scrolling through Facebook posts, and spending more time than we should be trying to beat our high score on Candy Crush! But with a few downloadable apps, they can help us to both save and make money too!

Consider downloading one (or more) of these apps today!

Shopkick

Shopkick is one of a number of similar apps that rewards you with free gift cards for doing the shopping you would normally do. By using a partner store, be that offline or online, you earn reward points by scanning and/or making purchases. When you have acquired enough points, you can then redeem them for a gift card for a range of shopping places, including Amazon, eBay, and Starbucks. Read these Shopkick reviews to find out more.

MySupermarket

If you’re always on the lookout for the best deals on the items you regularly buy, the MySupermarket app will let you compare prices across a range of stores, including Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, and Aldi. According to their website, you can save around 30% on each shop you do, so if you’re a frugal shopper, this is one app you really do need on your smartphone.

Toluna

An easy way to make extra money, Toluna is an app that will pay you for taking surveys. They take around 15-20 minutes to complete, and you earn about 2000 points per survey. Like many of the survey websites offering similar, you will be booted out of some of the surveys for not being part of the right demographic, but despite the frustration, it is still nice to be rewarded for  doing very little when finding a survey you are fit for. You can find out more about Toluna here, so if interested (especially if you enjoy doing surveys anyway), consider giving it a try with the free download.

Meter Reading

Unlike the other apps on this page, this app is not free to download. However, considering it will only cost you 99 pence to download, and with the knowledge that it could ultimately save you money on your household bills, this is one app worth paying for. While it won’t magically save money on your behalf, it will (through a few handy graphs) show you where savings could be made around your home.

By making alterations to your lifestyle (such as relying less on your heating on warmer days), you can then see the difference your changes have made to your bills. The app also allows you to compare energy prices with other suppliers, giving you the impetus to make the switch if you can find a cheaper supplier elsewhere. Downloadable for iPhone users only, you can source the app here.

Parkopedia

Are you sick and tired of paying for parking when you’re out and about in your car? Do you hate spending time looking for free parking spaces? If so, this this app is for you! Especially useful when you’re in an unfamiliar town with no prior knowledge of the best free parking spots, this useful app will let you know where they are, and direct you to them. You need never pay for a parking spot again or risk getting a parking ticket again!

So, what about you? What apps do you use to save and/or make money? Let us know in the comments section below.
